Two justice circuit breaker initiatives have now commenced in Bourke as part of the Maranguka Justice Reinvestment Project – the trial of a Warrant Clinic and a Driver Program. The Warrant Clinic brings individual participants together with a support team including the ALS, Youth off the Streets, the Family Referral Service, Education, and a Community Corrections or Juvenile Justice officer. Rather than being taken into custody when a warrant is issued, the ALS will make an application on behalf of participants for their warrant to ‘lie in office’ for 14 days. With their support team, the participant will develop a plan to submit to the Court on sentence or in relation to bail.
