The Bourke Justice Reinvestment Project is an initiative of the Bourke Aboriginal Community Working Party and Just Reinvest NSW established in partnership with various Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, government and non-government, community, corporate and philanthropic organisations. Justice Reinvestment is a circuit-breaker. It aims to address the underlying causes of crime and improve outcomes for both individuals and communities. Using the Bourke community to prove the concept, the Project aims to reduce the number of young Aboriginal people engaging with the justice system and being exposed to custody. We will prepare a case to convince all tiers of Government to shift policy and spending from incarceration and services, which are currently not effectively utilized in the community, to be reinvested into programs that address the underlying causes of youth crime and meet community need. Based in the Bourke community, the Project Officer will: Provide administration and organisational support across a range of strategic areas to the Project Team to facilitate delivery of the Project objectives.
